works for me.  wade bowen is a recent find  found surfing through eyetunes “customers who bought….also bought”  pages.  the only thing more simple than the lyrics are the chords that any knucklehead can recognize.  there’s a little smoke in his voice but otherwise it’s a smoke free recording that means you don’t have to sort through the myth and metaphor to understand this guy just might very well be really real.

“a list” players from nash-vegas on this latest release include the likes of randy rogers, radney foster, patty griffin, david grissom and chris knight just to name a few that hold even the remotest chance of your recognition.  speaking of recognition, wade is a graduate of my almost matter (alma mater for those unware of my abuse of the english language; besides, my graduation almost mattered…) Tejas Technologico; home to another almost matter: juan denver and home to others who really matter like waylon Jennings and buddy holy…er, holly.  (we used to get high and got sit by his grave on those nights when there wasn’t nuthin’ better to do, which unfortunately was almost every night.  lubbock  texas will eat you alive thataway.)

wade will be opening august tooth for pat green, another texican who went to tech) at the house of booze of sunset. pat’s gotten a little too commercial for my taste but he still belts out a good one every once in a while.  tix are pretty cheap and hey, it’s a wednesday night; what have you got that’s better to do?  i’m goin, so lemme know if ya wanna go.

neko was at the greek theatre a few nights ago, i went solo and thoroughly enjoyed her own wall of sound — heavy reverb on the vocals and a super tight band that didn’t miss a beat; unlike my heart hours earlier under the influence of mr. kettle one as my eyes gazed upon a delicious denizen of dastardly delight across the bar.  alas, i digress.  she’s definitely worth your dollars (neko that is, the denizen remains a mystery), sample her tunes on eyetunes and surf her site for more devilishly wonderful delight.

that’s the ointment on my ears.  other reco’s include fleet foxes, a referral from jimmy at the bar.  well crafted vocals and harmonies and a sort of retro sound.  they’re a seattle based band that vaguely reminds of the association (every one knows it’s wendy, cherish) from my early years — must be the harmonies. send me an email and let me know what’s rockin’ your pod and/or bod.
